The diversity of Switzerland is reflected in its climate, despite its small size. The Alps are an important factor here. They act as a barrier, so the weather in the north is often quite different from that in the south. It is noticeably milder in winter in the south than in the north.
Climate: Continental temperate climate with abundant rainfall, the climate is moderate with no excessive heat, cold or humidity. The climatic conditions vary from canton to canton and during seasons alternate frequent sunny days to days of rain. Frequent are in any season abrupt changes in weather. The winter period is characterized by frequent snowfalls. From July to August the daytime temperature range is 18 to 28°C and from January to February the range is -2 to 7°C. In spring and autumn, the daytime temperature range is 8 to 15 °C. Depending on the altitude the temperature range may vary. The rainfall is concentrated mainly in late spring and summer, the average is 600 to 1700 mm annually. The driest area of the country is the Rhône valley in the Valais (500-600 mm) in the southwest of Switzerland, also the valleys Engadin in the very east receive relatively little precipitation. Though the highest peaks of the Alps receive a high snowfall the year-round, yet Switzerland has a cool and cozy climate throughout the year. The best seasons looking to the weather conditions are Spring, summer and autumn. June and July are the months when the alpine wildflowers are usually at their peak, but summer is the season for the overwhelming tourist traffic visiting Switzerland.
